BOTOX INJECTIONS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...
  • How long does it take to work?

Full effects usually become apparent over a period of about two weeks. The first effects may be apparent after a few days and will build gradually after this.
  • How long will it last?

Four months is quoted as an average duration on action, often more, occasionally less.
  • What are the risks?

Botulinum toxin injections are very safe; much safer than a lot of frequently used medications. Allergic reactions are very, very rare.

Sometimes problems with botulinum toxin injections can appear as a result of the effects of the injection, rather than the side-effects. This can be a feeling of heavyness in the brow, a feeling of eyebrow drooping. This tends to be more subjective than objective - in other words it feels worse than it looks... very occasionally an eyelid ptosis (droop) can occur but this is rare and is usually avoided with good technique.

Redness around the injection site and very occasionally bruising can occur. This is just a risk of having injections and is no way a reflection of poor technique, just bad luck. Ice packs are offered during treatment to minimise these problems should they arise.
  • Is there anyone who cannot have botulinum injections?

Botulinum toxin is not licensed for use in pregnancy. Although the risks are only theoretical and no cases of injury to unborn babies has been recorded, the manufacturers advise against it's use just in case.

There are also some rare muscle-related disorders such as myasthaenia gravis and eaton-lambert syndrome where these injections must be avoided. You will know if you have one of these conditions...
  • How long does the procedure take?

The actual injections can be done in 10-15 minutes. A minimum time for a consultation is usually 30 minutes to enable discussion, consent and photographic documentation to take place.
  • What should / shouldn't I do after my treatment?

Clients are encouraged to use their facial muscles by doing facial exercises after their treatment.

Things that should not be done include massaging the area, extreme heat (sauna etc) and excessive alcohol. The area should be kept clean.

A post-treatment information pack will be given to each client after their treatment.
  • What follow-up care is offered?

A formal follow-up visit is offered two weeks after the initial treatment. This provides an opportunity to discuss any issues surrounding the treatment. A free top-up treatment is offered at this time if necessary.

DERMAL FILLERS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...
  • Does it hurt?

Dermal filler injections can be more uncomfortable than botulinum injections so anaesthetic cover is offered. This can be in the form of an anaesthetic cream that is applied to the skin prior to the treatment or via a locally acting anaesthetic injection. These injections are recommended for sensitive areas such as the the lips and surrounding tissue. The injections are short-lived and usually numb the area for about 30 mins.
  • How long will it last?

Dermal fillers can be expected to last many months, if not years in some cases.
  • How long does the treatment take?

Uncomplicated straightforward treatment can be done in a 30 minute appointment, but more complicated techniques and effects would need a 60 minute slot.
  • What are the risks?

The risks with dermal fillers are very low. Allergic reactions are very rare with modern manufacturing techniques. Temporary soreness or bruising can occur as the techniques used with dermal fillers tend to be more invasive and hands-on compared with botulinum injections.
  • How long will it take to work?

The effects with fillers are immediate. Appearances will change slightly over the coming weeks as the product changes under the skin (softening, expanding and hydrating) but generally you will have a fair idea of the results as you leave the clinic.
  • What should / shouldn't I do after my treatment?

Full details will be given to you directly after your treatment. The area must be kept clean but otherwise just be sensible. It is ok to gently massage the area if any irregularity of product is felt.
  • What follow-up care is offered?

A formal follow-up appointment is offered two weeks after the treatment to discuss any issues or concerns

ACCENT RF - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...

  • Is Accent RF skin tightening treatment painful?

No. Accent RF skin tightening treatment should not be painful. The process involves transmitting heat to the skin and supporting tissues so the sensation is warm but not uncomfortable. Some clients like the treatment to a hot stone massage. The amount of energy transmitted to the tissues can be modulated during the procedure for individual tolerances. It should be stressed, however, that a certain temperature is needed in order for the treatment to be effective.
  • How long does Accent RF treatment take?

The Accent RF session could be anything from 30 mins to 90 mins depending on what areas are treated.
  • How long do the effects of Accent RF skin tightening last?

The effects of Accent RF skin tightening treatments are long lasting but do depend on how many treatments are performed. 4-6 sessions are usually recommended for full effects, repeated at 2-4 week intervals depending. Top-up treatments every six months can be beneficial to maintain optimum results.
  • Who cannot have Accent RF treatments?

Accent RF is not recommended in the following circumstances:

    Uncontrolled high blood pressure
    Pregnancy
    Skin malignancy
Isotretinoin (acne) treatment within the last year
    Cardiac pacemaker in situ
    Underlying large metal prosthetic implants
  • What are the side effects of Accent RF?

The feeling of heat is short lived. The treatment probe has a water-cooled head to aid comfort. temperature sensation is felt mainly in the skin and this cooling effect helps to keep the procedure comfortable. There may be some temporary redness to the area. The area treated may, in fact, feel 'looser' than before as the fat is effectively 'melted' during the treatment. this will firm up after a few days and full effects are achieved after two weeks.
  • What should / shouldn't I do after my Accent RF treatment?

We recommend a healthy balanced diet, lots of water to drink and moderate exercise and activity.
